Electric Cello – Carol Thorns
Carol Thorns is South Africa’s leading electric cellist and a pioneer in the electric string genre. Her performances have taken her across the globe, sharing the stage with John Legend, opening for Vanessa-Mae, and performing for Jennifer Lopez.
A visionary artist, Carol has created a series of captivating musical concepts and collaborations through her company, Red Cello Productions. These include The Bubble, The Galaxy Dress, The Blossom Dress, CODA Africa, and Rosanthorn Trio, each offering a unique fusion of music and visual artistry.
Carol is a Double South African Music Award (SAMA) nominee, with her solo albums Sanctuary (2023) and Fireflies in the Rain (2010) both earning nominations for Best Instrumental Album. Her innovative solo audio-visual show, Red Cello Electrified, received a 4-star rating at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival.

Electric Violin - Renate Riedemann
Renate Riedeman graduated Cum Laude from the University of Stellenbosch’s distinguished Conservatoire, majoring in Violin Performance with Distinction. She is an incredibly versatile musician who excels in many different genres and has collaborated with popular bands such ad Flat Stanley, Romanz, Bala Brothers, Lira, Chianosky and more.
She’s performed in a variety of cabaret productions, featured in a handful of local music videos, and has been involved in recording projects with many local producers including Riaan Steyn, Helmut Meijer, Johan Oberholzer and Mauritz Lotz (over 100 recordings). As electric violinist she formed part of Sterling EQ and CODA Africa, Renate’s elegant performances are consistently met with high praise from audiences and corporate clients alike – she is a stylish, accomplished performer who delivers a wide range of styles.
